Sales Tax Information for Equipment Over $5,000

Florida customers are required to pay sales tax on the purchase price of all products. Each county charges a different rate depending upon the local Discretionary Sales Tax. The Local Discretionary Tax is assessed only on the first $5,000 of sale price of each piece of equipment. Our store calculates the Florida sales tax amount based on the shipping destination of your order.

If Your Equipment Is Less Than $5,000

Discretionary sales tax is charged on the full purchase price (since it is under $5,000). The total amount is subject to the Florida base rate plus the local discretionary rate.

Example: Purchase price is $3,500 shipping to Lake County, FL. Local discretionary rate is 1%.
Tax due = $3,500 × 0.01 = $35 (local) + $210 (base) = $245.

If Your Equipment Is More Than $5,000

Discretionary sales tax applies only to the first $5,000 of the equipment price. Amounts above $5,000 are not subject to the local discretionary portion (but are still subject to the state base rate).

Example: Purchase price is $6,500 shipping to Hernando County, FL. Additional (local) sales tax rate is 0.5%.
Local tax due = $5,000 × 0.005 = $25 (local) + $390 (base) = $415.
